Welcome to New Member Janet Gallo!

Janet Gallo joined Artists United Club quite recently. It has been my pleasure to get to know her through our club gatherings and at my Thursday “Art-Ins.” Janet is energetic, friendly, tenacious, and very talented with her paintbrush.
A native of New York, she has been living here in the Pacific Northwest, where her two adult children now live, for only a short while. One of her goals, upon moving here, was to find a community of like-minded artists who enjoy being together and learning from each other. She found us!
Currently her favorite subjects for paint are landscapes, a reflection of her love of nature, and she is looking forward to honing her drawing skills. The Thursday group directed her to Betty Edwards’ Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain. I predict she will be a fast learner. Janet works primarily with oil (Winsor is her favorite brand), and any brushes that will “do the trick.”
While Janet’s career history focused on finance and medical administration, she did return to school later in life and earned a degree in psychology (a fun backdrop for art, don’t you think?) Teaching herself to play the piano by ear (yikes!) and painting came next along with a chance to practice her creativity and new-found understanding of human thinking and behavior. Janet’s first art instruction, while she was still living in New York, was under Wilson Bickford, who uses wet-on-wet techniques.
She currently has an inventory of about ten pieces, having left behind many of her works when she left New York, and, in time, she would like to try selling her art. In the future, she plans to try out abstract techniques and learn to draw well. On top of that, she is even writing a memoir (hmmm, maybe I can get her to join my writing group…)
Say hello to Janet the next time you see her, and I guarantee you will enjoy the interaction.
