Introducing Jules Ericson, new AU Member
by Debra Valpey, AU Membership Chair and Secretary
I had the pleasure of spending a morning with Jules Ericson; I was charmed and inspired. Jules is a new AU member who is jumping right in with murals, canvass and brushes, and enthusiasm galore.
Jules was always a creative child. As a youngster she wrote and illustrated original story books for her dolls and stuffed animal companions. Later on, she entertained them with private performances. They loved it!
Her grandpa sparked her interest in watercolor and she took to it. A bit later on, she was invited to paint doors in her brother’s house (a Hobbit door, why not!?) and that was followed by painting vista windows, which are paintings that feature outdoor vistas. Just like magic, you can be transported to Tuscany or even to Alaska in wintertime without having to leave Burien.
While Jules was born and raised in South King County, she spent several years living in Alaska and loving the quiet, the pastoral qualities, and the nighttime sun. It was in Fairbanks that she discovered a passion for photography, but she did not go professional with her camera. I’ll bet her amateur photos are pretty amazing too. Let’s ask her! She even dabbled in sculpting at one time. A true Renaissance artist!
Jules has battled a variety of illnesses during her life but is now in good health. She credits her recovery in part to her calling as a Shaman Health Coach, which began about ten years ago when she embarked upon a four-year apprenticeship and became a holistic health coach in 2021. She studied under Lynn Andrews and The Sisterhood of the Shields. You might want to “google” those to get a better idea of Jules’ spiritual focus on life. She also advocates for a blending of Eastern and Western medicine along with spiritual coaching for achieving and maintaining physical, mental, and emotional health.
Jules will be participating in this year’s Cove Show and featuring her watercolors (many are painted beyond the borders of the matts-so cool!) and plans to create greetings cards from her watercolors and from photos of some of her murals and door art. A goal she has for her art is to create mosaic mobiles from cut glass and make more suspended decorated doors that twirl on an axis and invite one into new and magical spaces.
Jules shares a home in the Shorewood area with her husband, antique polydactyl cat named Jack, invalid Vietnam Vet father-in-law and 24-year-old stepson. It is a FULL HOUSE!
