Debra Valpey
I began experimenting with painting back in the 70’s; I tried my hand at decorative tole (folk art) painting on bits of wood, metal and the like. Then I took a leap of faith and gave oil painting a try and enjoyed some success. A non-productive, artistically speaking, few decades followed where I worked as a schoolteacher, raised kids, and the like.
Painting, for me, is the means by which I create my own unique image of another image inspired by viewing photographic representation, by observing nature and the animal world, or by visiting my imagination. Such images allow me to express my personal style, and my appreciation for life. I love to paint wild animals, beloved pets, and beautiful places, many of which include water. My mediums are watercolor, acrylic, and colored pencil. Mostly self taught, I enjoy occasional brush up classes at local community centers. I currently serve as president of Artists United Club of South King County and display my work at various local venues. I hope you enjoy my recent efforts. I have much to learn and am finding the process entrancing and inspiring.
If you would like to talk with me about painting your pet or some special place, please take my card and give me a call or a “click.” I hope to talk with you soon.
