Karen Smith
I love the colors of the world and to attempt to capture that beauty on paper or film is one of the optimum experiences for me. I take tons of pictures, always with the possibility of turning them into a painting in the back of my mind. I’ve worked in Oil, Watercolor, graphite pencil, pastels and colored pencil. Colored Pencil fits me so well - it’s portable, not messy, doesn’t take a lot of specialized equipment - just paper and pencils and, possibly, a drawing board. I can take these tools anywhere - outside to capture ideas in quick sketches, or inside where I can refine those ideas and add the detail that colored pencil allows me to render. With a cat in my lap (I have two Studio Assistants of the feline variety) or helping by keeping the paper from sliding off my workspace, and a handful of colored pencils, I’m a satisfied and very happy woman.
